RRU is neither a tour company nor a travel agency. We aren't here to shuttle you between standard tourist stops. We're here to share our lived experiences of Namhae, South Korea with you. Whether we are hiking mountain trails, wandering historic villages, or unlocking hidden heritage spaces, our goal is to connect you directly with communities. We invite you to slow down, stay curious, and move from being a simple visitor to truly living the journey
About the Founder
I founded ROOTS & ROUTES UNBOUND with a belief that some of the most meaningful learning happens when we step outside the familiar.
My work has been shaped by experience in heritage conservation education and outdoor learning, alongside my experience as an educator and teacher. I have worked with young people and communities to explore how heritage, culture, nature, and place can become powerful tools for learning.
Through my work, I have developed and delivered programmes that help people look beyond historic buildings and artefacts — to understand the stories, people, traditions, and communities that give places their meaning. I am particularly interested in how heritage can be preserved, interpreted, and brought back into everyday life through meaningful engagement and adaptive reuse.
My background in outdoor education has given me a similar perspective. Learning does not always happen best inside a classroom. A mountain trail, coastline, village, historic site, or conversation with a local person can create opportunities to challenge ourselves, work together, ask questions, and see the world from a different perspective.
My journey has also brought me into the classroom as a teacher, further strengthening my belief in learning through experience, reflection, and connection.
I am based in Namhae, South Korea with my family, and this has given me the opportunity to experience Namhae not simply as a place to visit, but as a place to live, learn, and build connections. It is this everyday connection with the landscape, communities, and culture that continues to shape the way I see and design experiences.
Through RRU, I bring these strands of my work together to create small-scale experiences across the island of Namhae, South Korea — combining outdoor adventure, heritage, culture, education, and genuine exchange. It is about helping you experience a place, understand its stories, connect with its people, and leave seeing it a little differently.
Why ROOTS & ROUTES UNBOUND
RRU is built from lived experience. As an outdoor educator, heritage educator and teacher living in Namhae, I have spent years learning directly through places, people and hands-on experiences. I created RRU to share the Korea that you might not find in a guidebook - the hidden places, local stories, meaningful encounters and experiences that are often difficult to access on your own.
I believe travel should be far more than just sightseeing. My programs bridge heritage, nature, and community through carefully curated, hands-on experiences. Whether you're a student, family, educator, or professional, I invite you to step closer to the places you visit and experience a Korea that is authentic, deeply personal, and hard to find anywhere else.

Darangyi (Village is one of Korea's most iconic heritage landscapes — 108 steps of stone and soil carved into steep coastal hillsides over generations. These terraced rice paddies are a testament to human persistence, offering sweeping sea views alongside farming tradition.

Our retreats create space for students, educators, and groups to slow down and reconnect beyond the usual classroom environment. Through nature, outdoor adventure, cultural experiences, reflection, and community connection, participants are encouraged to develop perspective, resilience, curiosity, and a deeper sense of place.
